A Damaged Soul

Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. - James 1:21

Whenever a car is damaged it must be salvaged and restored. Someone or a company will take it upon themselves to service that car and make sure that it is redone and finished to its former glory; undestructed, and just like new! In short, to salvage means to save or rescue!

In the garden, Adam and Eve had been involved in an accident, So Christ came down to rescue and salvage humankind to free us from the entanglement of sin.

Jesus is called the second Adam because He came to save us from the devastation that occurred with the first Adam. He is also called the last Adam because there is no other salvation or rescue after Him! When Adam was salvaged, we were salvaged along with Him. When we were saved our spirits were also saved, but our souls are constantly being saved (present - tense) and renewed as we work on them. God has laid up eternity within us and our spirits have been regenerated 100%, but our souls are in constant need of being saved on a daily basis. We must work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12).

Words are very critical, and they are associated with our culture, language, art, music, and behavior. This is why when we are engaging in any source of entertainment the enemy is after those specific things. The enemy is aware that negative words are venomous to the soul. The human soul is super valuable, in fact, it can be traded for the entire world (Mark 8:36)! Unfortunately, there are people who have given up their souls for the world, sold them to the devil, and died with nothing as a result.

In the book of Genesis, God created a statue from the ground and it was completely lifeless. Until He breathed into his nostrils, and Adam became a living soul (Genesis 2:7). From this event in the word of God, theologians believe that there is a relationship between the human soul and blood.

Examples:

Soul ties exist between humans due to a covenant of blood

Jesus purchased our souls with blood

For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. And he besought him so much that he would not send them away out of the country. Now there was there night unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done. And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.- Mark 5:8-15

Indicators that a soul is damaged

1. It is accustomed to a life of torment

And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.

A damaged soul is always dwelling on past afflictions. Their life is so filled with so much torture, that they can hardly sleep at night. But not all hope is lost because damaged souls can be healed with the power of Jesus.

2. It dwells over dead things

And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains,

Damaged souls dwell amongst dead things! Dead marriages, business, transactions, you name it. Ultimately dwelling over a dead past or being filled with fear is not wholesome. The word of God is described as the “Good news”, so don't dwell on bad news, dwell on the Good news. What Christ has done for you, and the unspeakable joy of the Lord! Dwell on life rather than death!

3. It is immersed in confusion

For He said to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” Then He asked him, “What is your name?” And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.”

People with damaged souls are confused, can not make proper decisions, are unstable, and always running around. They also have the spirit of disorientation, disorder, and may go amuck. There is also a fight between the one and the many. So you must listen to the right voice!

So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. - Acts 20:32

It is possible for a spirit to be saved, but for a soul to be damaged. We must constantly work on our souls or else we will remain the same. Damaged souls are no joke, but there is a remedy! The word of God is able to save our souls and build us up. Our job is to work on our souls using the word of God!

A damaged soul can not fully prosper, Pray for the Lord to heal your soul!
