(It takes eleven days to go from Horeb to Kadesh Barnea by the Mount Seir road.) In the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses proclaimed to the Israelites all that the LORD had commanded him concerning them. This was after he had defeated Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, and at Edrei had defeated Og king of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth. East of the Jordan in the territory of Moab, Moses began to expound this law, saying: The LORD our God said to us at Horeb, "You have stayed long enough at this mountain. Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev, and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates. See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the LORD swore he would give to your fathers-to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob-and to their descendants after them."
- Deuteronomy 1:2-8
The children of Israel were headed out of Egypt and into Cannan, the land of their inheritance. However, on the way there they settled due to fear and were scared to move on. God encouraged them to leave the camp and head to the distinct and distinguished nation that He had handpicked for them. As they were on the way to their promise, they witnessed miracles and God’s hand in their lives. He also continued to protect them and be on their side throughout the journey. However, they set camp because of the slave mentality that they had dwelt in. Carelessly, they still viewed themselves as grasshoppers and limited themselves.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. - 2 Corinthians 5:17
Whenever we accept Jesus Christ as our savior we become brand new creations. However, there is something that is not instantly transformed whenever we receive salvation, and that is our mindset. Which is not only linked to the way that we think; but the way that we reason as well. Therefore, we must continually work on our mindset. When one goes from living and indulging in sin to living for God, work must be done. We must eat from the word of God daily, and feed our spirits so we can grow in the ways of God!
Therefore lay aside all filthiness and [a]overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. - James 1:21
You can not live an effective Christian life without first eating from the word of God. To think positively and experience the joy of the Lord. You must first be intentional about receiving the word of God. Your thoughts and mind must be aligned with the word of God!
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” - Matthew 4:4
As human beings we need food for our physical health, however, we also need spiritual food as well. Without the word, it is difficult to make the right choices and act correctly when encountered with conflict. If we do not feast on the word of God, we will inevitably feast on something else, something that is not healthy. As children of God, we have several promises from God, however, we will not be able to enjoy them without first being full of His word. Do not substitute the word of God with other things, because the word of God is a compass that guides us quite well.
There we saw the [a]giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants), and we were like[b] grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” - Numbers 13:33
The beliefs and doctrines that we receive and believe affect our character, destiny, and behaviors. The children of Israel believed something contrary to the word of God, and it affected the way that they received the word of God and lived their lives. The way that we think is very vital, so let’s not see ourselves as grasshoppers. Instead, let's believe the word of God and receive it, knowing that it can defeat giants. Don't focus on the hugeness of the enemy or your situation. Instead, focus on the strength and size of the almighty God. We do not have the spirit of fear but instead the spirit of sonship. Whose report are you going to believe? The worlds or the Lord’s? In conclusion, a mind that is not transformed will never know the will of God or make the correct choices. So get rid of the grasshopper mentality!
