Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.” But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. - Jonah 1:1-4
God knows best, it’s truly just that simple, however, we forget it sometimes! It is both very important and crucial for us to surrender to God. To relinquish, give, and yield all that we are to Him. You and I are no safer than when we’re in the arms of our father. The one who has been caring and providing for us since the very beginning. He is the one who will be caring for us forever, the one that deeply knows everything about us.
Surrender your life
There had to have been something deep about Jonah’s relationship with God for Him to receive such an assignment! However, instead of being obedient to God, and giving Him the “yes” that He deserved, Jonah decided to run. Now, it's to be said that the Ninevites were scary people because they were not only involved in sin, but they were dangerous as well. Also, they were enemies of Isreal so Jonah wasn't interested in going there. However, as someone who had a relationship with God, he obviously struggled with surrendering to the Lord. As believers, We must always be ready to surrender any things to God. We must also never become too comfortable because we never know when God will give us our next instruction and even ask us to do something bold, challenging, and outside of the box. As His servants, we must live in a state of surrender. Because obedience is the evidence of truly trusting and being surrendered. It’s easy to say that we are willing to do anything for God until the time arises and we must actually partner our words with our actions.
Surrender your journey
Sometimes we make plans and they don't work out, other times situations arise and we have to reroute our entire lives. But when we root our lives in God, it doesn't matter that things don't go our way, because God is steering things, He is the captain of our ships. He is the one calling all the shots. That's better than if we were leading our own lives. Because we wouldn't know what we were doing, in fact, we wouldn't even know where to begin. Because we are not qualified to run our own lives. We can simply hand our journeys over to God and allow Him to handle them because He has all the authority. We mustn't be so stuck on having things go our way! We must allow God to lead us because He knows best!
Surrender your circumstances
Instead of worrying and having anxiety over what is happening around us or in our lives. We must give God a chance to work. When things around you are looking shaky and you are not sure what will happen next, give it all to God. But, I also want to encourage you to be content with your circumstances until things change. Contentment doesn't mean that things are perfect, or nothing needs any changes. Instead, it means that we can experience satisfaction and even gratitude when things need fixing. In theory, as children of God who have salvation, the Holy Spirit, and eternal life, shouldn't we find it in our hearts to be content at all times? It is possible to praise God before your breakthrough and trust that He will work it out. In the meantime, worship Him for the great things that you have in your life. Some things take time, and we won't always see results overnight. However, God will always surprise us with His marvelous results so we have nothing to worry about!
Who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. - Philippians 2:6-8
Don't doubt God, because all He wants to do is bless the broken with your obedience. He wants people to experience healing, breakthroughs, and so much more through you. None, of that, can take place without your surrender. You must deny something in yourself in order for God to be glorified. You can't be comfortable or complacent and expect God to move in your life. God has not given us parts of Himself.
Give God everything because He first gave you everything. It’s a worthy exchange! You are doing yourself a disservice whenever you choose to withhold from God. God has chosen, equipped, and invested in you for His glory, and you were created to magnify Him. any life outside of that is not a life worth living. In fact, it's an opportunity wasted because it's the very thing that we were created for.
