Murmuring

Updated: Apr 11, 2021

"But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord."

- Psalm 106:25

"And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

- Exodus 16:2-3

"Do all things without murmurings and disputing"

- Philippians 2:14

There are many things that you can do in your life however murmuring shouldn't be one of them. The dictionary defines murmuring as a subdued or private expression of discontent or dissatisfaction. If you're not careful, complaining and murmuring can become a way of life,

In fact, it's possible to complain and murmur even when you don’t have problems.

However, we have to be grateful, not people who are always murmuring. Always keep in mind that there is always someone who has a worse situation than you, also there’s no way you can have the energy to complain and take heed of the word of God simultaneously.

Expectant hearts can not be created with murmuring spirits, and typically murmuring is full of exaggerating. It also opens the door to the devil, who can't attack without your permission (which is given to him when you complain).

We see in the text, that even after the children of Israel had been released from Pharaoh's control, a life of bondage, and on the journey to their promised land. They couldn't stop complaining. Although God was providing for them in miraculous ways, they overlooked it and chose to murmur instead. So even in your life don't dismiss the quail and manna, all the great things that God’s doing in your life.

So stop complaining and murmuring because it has several repercussions.

Complaining substitutes the word of God

Complaining can become pathological

Complaining can become Impulsive

Complaining can become compulsive

Complaining will cost you

Complaining hinders your prayers

Complaining brings stagnation

Complaining drains you

Complaining leads to destruction

Complaining hinders you’re prayers

Complaining opens the door to the devil

The final issue with complaining is that it can lead to death

When Jesus was on the cross, He never once complained. So do all things without complaining or murmuring. Now is the time to stop complaining about the things around you, and be grateful for what God has given you.
