Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
- Psalm 126:5
Jesus Christ was 100% man and God, and as He was living on Earth His prayers consisted of Him praying passionately and emotionally before the Father. His tears were not wasted or ignored, actually, they were heard by God. Understand that when you cry, God hears your prayers and sees your tears. In fact, your tears are more powerful than you know!
Let's take a look at the different kinds of tears that we see in the Bible:
Tears of doom
These are tears that are shed when someone is in trouble or suffering.
They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. - Matthew 13:42
Tears for sinners
Jesus cried over Jerusalem because He saw that they were unsaved and it deeply moved Him. When was the last time that you wept over unsaved souls? Jesus Christ left us with a mandate to go after souls and we must be faithful to that call, and commission. As we start to have a deep burden for souls God will reward us.
Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.” - Luke 19:41-44
Tears of repentance
The woman in this scripture poured herself before the Lord and repented to Him. She disregarded her care for her looks and decided to bring herself before the Savior. Some people in the room shamed her for what she did, however, Jesus Christ received her.
When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
- Luke 7:36-38
Tears of anguish
Job's friends were scorning him, however, he took it to the Lord in tears. Instead of trying to fight for himself, he allowed the Lord to do it. Cry to the Lord because He can actually do something about your tears. Allow God to fight your battles!
My friends scorn me; My eyes pour out tears to God. Oh, that one might plead for a man with God, As a man pleads for his neighbor! For when a few years are finished, I shall go the way of no return. - Job 16:20-22
God is a divine accountant when it comes to tears, know that He is keeping a ledger!
Anguish won't be present in the eternal presence of God. Maybe you've been crying for some time, may God answer all your prayers, wipe away your worries, and wipe away all of your tears (Revelation 21:4). When you are crying don't be discouraged because God is listening!
You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book?
- Psalms 56:8
