What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. - Galatians 4:1-2
In the book of Galatians, Paul paints a picture of a cultural scenario. It goes something like this, as long as an heir is a child, he does not differ from a slave or a servant. In the culture that Paul is writing to, men desired to have sons who could inherit their wealth after they passed on. Essentially, the sons would inherit something that they did not labor or toil for.
Sons inherit several things from their fathers, such as their last names, wealth, and authority. Whenever a son embarks on the throne he must exercise those things well. Heirs are very important in their families and they are entrusted with much. This is why Abraham wept over not having an heir because he wanted his hard work to be treasured, and passed on to someone else. The heir has the advantage of enjoying what they have not worked for. They are simply to wait and receive; because it already belongs to them.
As children of God, we have become heirs in the kingdom of God. There is a grace in us to receive and partake of something that we have not worked or strived for. Jesus died to not only give us salvation but keys to the kingdom as well. In fact, it was a prophetic act like a father dying and leaving an inheritance to His children.
Heirs have the right to command things to happen, however, when heirs are children they can not yet possess what's theirs, they must first reach a certain level of maturity. Fathers would put their sons in the hands of tutors so that they could behave like true kings, and be educated. In fact, what would qualify the heirs to take over was the mentality that they would develop from being around their tutors.
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
- Ecclesiastes 3:1
With the proper tutors, fathers would look upon their sons and see that they had developed into the kings that they were called to be. We all have tutors in our lives such as managers, siblings, and spouses, to prepare us for promotions. Hannah had a tutor, (Peninnah) who made her realize how much she really wanted a child. It led her to really pray like never before. God gives us tutors so that we can have discipline and be equipped.
When God sees that we are qualified and grown, then He gives us what we have been waiting for. At this present moment, God is training us to be able to properly obtain our inheritance. So we must respond to the training that the father has set up for us.
The day is coming when you will be celebrated and receive what you are wanting from the Lord. Things will change, authority, power, and access will be granted to you. Once you have graduated and inaugurated; because tutorship leads to kingship!
